We are excited to announce the launching of the "Behavioural Therapy for Tics Institute" (BTTI). The BTTI offers a package of online behavioural therapy training opportunities & events for clinicians & therapists who want to find out more about, and train in, delivering behavioural therapy for tics. All events are on a first-come first-served basis and it is expected that places will fill up quickly.
A variety of events are offered:
Behavioural therapy training
This is an online training session for professionals from disciplines such as psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, psychiatry and neurology as well as clinicians with experience of delivering behavioural therapy. This consists of a "live" online training where trainers Dr Tara Murphy and Jolande van de Griendt will give presentations including pre-recorded videos and a live patient demonstration. If you wish to sign up for behavioural therapy training please submit the following application form. After the application process, if accepted, you will be sent the Ticket Tailor link and at that point your place will be confirmed.
Non-clinician workshops
This webinar is aimed at non-clinicians who would like to find out more about tics and tic disorders like Tourette Syndrome. There will be a general introduction to tics, tic disorders and TS, covering acceptance & understanding, how to talk about tics and explaining to others. We will discuss co-occurring conditions and other issues like mental health.
We will give an overview of behavioural therapy, types of therapy, causes & consequences of tics, relaxation & social support. We will look at some of the common questions and myths about behavioural therapy. There will also be a Q & A session at the end of the webinar.
Masterclass
The title of this Masterclass is “Adapting treatment for individuals with co-occurring conditions”. The aim of this high quality masterclass is for those clinical professionals already trained in behavioural therapy and who have been working with patients with tics. There will be discussion of specific therapeutic intervention(s), discussion of practical implementation, difficulties and problem solving. Other Masterclasses in the future will focus on: functional tics, tic-like attacks, anxiety, rage, reinforcing tics, "adult onset" etc.
Clinicians are invited to bring anonymised cases to discuss.
Clinical consultations
We are pleased to offer regular clinical consultation sessions for practitioners providing therapy with individuals with tics and co-occurring conditions across the lifespan. The aim of the consultation sessions is to support therapists who are new to the area or have experience but are working with complex cases. The consultants will draw on their own extensive clinical experience and draw on their detailed knowledge of the empirical evidence.
The format of the sessions will be 90 minutes in total and offered remotely. There will be a maximum of 10 practitioners invited for each session. An opportunity for 3 practitioners to describe a clinical case and discuss their queries is available in each session. There will be signposting to relevant materials. All attendees should be aware that the discussions are sensitive and maintain anonymity and attendees will be asked to sign an agreement confirming this. In addition to case discussion, opportunities will be provided for topics such as service development, research consultation and any other relevant area that attendees would value.
